Yes! It’s that time again! Riikka and I challenge each other each month to create something with a particular theme or thing in mind. This theme or thing can be anything and for this Inspired by Riikka and I agreed upon IKEA’s Moppe:

This was my idea… And I had the four drawer model shown above in mind when I apped Riikka about it. Harold went to IKEA to get me one (he drives by the big blue box every day), but he thought I needed the six drawer model. No harm done, there was still time to get the right one, or so I thought.

In the meantime the six drawer Moppe was occupying my desk and I grew kind of fond of it… So there was no way that I was going to trade it in for a four drawer equivalent. Better yet: I thought about getting the lonely Moppe a six drawer twin.

But what to do about decorating it… I had visions of painting or stencilling an image onto it. And then I thought… No.

I thought about decoupaging it with vintage wall paper… And then I thought… No.

I also thought about painting and then gel medium transferring onto it. And then I decided against that too.

It was all way to daunting. What if I would ruin the Moppe? I couldn’t risk ruining the sight of it… I just couldn’t!

I decided to play it very safe. I would use just paint and I would keep things super, SUPER simple. And I’m glad I did, because I love the result!

When Harold eventually went back to IKEA the four drawer Moppe’s were all gone. So he brought me back two more six drawer ones and one slightly larger six drawer model to replace the old Fira’s (or Mackis or whatever they were once called) that I have had forever.

I’ve painted them all in the same fashion and now I’ve got a whole new colourful set up for my creative desk!
