Hi there! It’s the 10th again… and of course I have a new Inspired by to share with you!

Inspired by is a monthly challenge that my friend Riikka and I started almost 3 years ago. We decide on a theme (and that theme can be anything from a film, a book, a painting, to an item, colour scheme or material) and then we create something with that theme or thing in mind.

We keep what we’re making a secret until reveal day on the 10th, when we show you and each other our creations.

Today I’m going to prove once again that not only the theme can be anything, but also the result can be whatever we feel like. It’s our creative playground and there are no rules!

For this month we agreed upon another film… or rather a book… or should I say two books… It has inspired so many artists, film makers, writers over the past 150 years and it’s… Alice in Wonderland!

Just for the sake of having a jumping-off point we chose the amazing Tim Burton adaptation:

But… as I couldn’t remember reading the original book(s), I headed to the library first and got the book and the audio book because I thought I could listen to it while doing other assignments.

I was wrong… I had to scroll back so many times (because I had completely missed parts) that I had to conclude that reading the book was much faster.

During this time I was also cleaning out my attic. And… discovered that I actually owned an English copy of the book. Go figure.

Anyway: after I had finally read the book I decided I wanted to re-watch the Disney animation from 1951. Or I thought I wanted to re-watch it, because whilst watching, I realized I couldn’t remember ever having seen it before.

I grew up with Disney animations and I was convinced I had seen them all! We also had plenty of Disney books, so that’s probably why I thought I had seen the movie. All of the characters were so familiar! But the animation wasn’t!

Finally I watched the Tim Burton 2010 film. I was so happy and glad that I had taken the time to read the book(s) first!!! I’m sure that I would have enjoyed the film immensely without having read the books, but… at least now I got all the references!

So… what did I create with all this Alice information in mind? Well… You know how my mind works in odd ways sometimes? It’s all in the details and a huge dose of synchronicity.

And then of course I couldn’t stop… So I made two more:

This last one is my favourite. It started out like this:

and I coloured the fabric with my Letraset ProMarkers! I tried to mimic the pattern on the Mad Hatters bow… I love how it turned out!

I even made a little petticoat!

Don’t get me wrong: I’m not a seamstress. I just fly by the seat of my pants. Like I did when I was a kid, sewing barbie clothes out of old socks and scraps of fabric. I do know how to handle a sewing machine though and I’m not afraid to use it!
